This novel flowed in a very enjoyable, lovely way! I enjoyed the author’s turns of phrases and lyrical style as the main character Daphne navigates the relationships and events in her life. Emotions are described well. As Daphne begins to unravel secrets and reveal clues, she comes to understand the dark reason for her parents’ life at sea, and why she grew up on a sailboat.Product details

Compelling and imaginative with well-developed characters. Daphne's story and journey of discovery mixed with mysteries from the past drew me in from the first page, and I didn't want to put it down. My daughter liked it just as much as I did.
This story is told in present time and in flashbacks. After her mother dies, 16-year old Daphne finds herself in Pine Bluff, a place where her stodgy mean grandfather lives. He is the head of Harrison Academy, an all-girls school where Daphne is forced to attend. All of her life, she had been living on a sailboat with her parents and home schooled so she is totally out of her element. Luckily, she is boarded with another outcast and they form a friendship. Her roommate helps her find the secret that her parents have kept all of her life.
The story was very touching and I felt Daphne’s pain. Author Anchel is a great writer. There is a love story in there as well when Daphne meets Noah but his ex-girlfriend thinks he is still hers and is bound and determined to hurt Daphne. Even when Daphne tries to pull away from him, Noah persists and he is loyal to Daphne throughout. After much anguish and travelling across the county to meet grandparents who she has never met, Daphne finally finds some answers to her mother’s childhood, and why her family's been on the run all of her life. There are some surprises in the story as well and it gets dramatic during the conflict scene on the ocean. When an author helps me feel their characters’ pain and anguish, I know that is a good author! Great story.
Great book! Kept me interested and wanting to read more.
This is an excellent combination of genres coming of age story meets mystery. Interesting plot twists make the story compelling I got up at 4am to finish it!
